Reading mail about operators

They write to me a lot, often things are interesting and useful. Well, if it turned out to be "in the subject" or even a whole separate topic, then the letter is integrated into the material. And if not, then the good is lost, sorry. I will from time to time arrange a "debriefing" on your letters and at the same time individual comments.

Write more, there is a chance to benefit the society. I will try to choose useful for many and / or the most interesting. Naturally, personal data in the screenshots is carefully covered up.

About "Private Accounts"

". with traffic on the phone, I can’t even find information about the balance in my Tele2 account. Can you please tell me where to look for this residue?”

Indeed, I did not find the rest of the traffic in the old "My Account", but it already shows in the new version.

An invitation has appeared at the top of the page of the old personal account, or go directly to the new one using the link new.my.tele2.ru. For corporate clients, only the previous version works for now.

I can also recommend a mobile version of the LC, above is an Android version, you can download it here. I haven’t looked closely at the program yet, but in the background, it seems, it doesn’t hang and doesn’t eat the battery. At first it seemed inconvenient that it does not remember the entered phone number and you need to dial it again every time you enter, but no, it remembers.

And mandatory authorization at the entrance. By default, via a response to a USSD request, if not answered, an SMS is sent, the code from which is itself substituted in the required field. If the device does not support receiving SMS messages, then they will offer to enter using the PUK code or login / password. And so every time you enter. But if you create a four-digit pin-code to enter the application, then in the future you will only have to dial it. In any case, there is no auto-login to the "Personal Account", and, probably, this is correct. I'll dig into the app a little later and write, so your comments are welcome. Judging by the dates and discussion, the application is quite fresh.

Not so long ago, on Twitter, I was involved in a lively discussion about MegaFon's "Personal Account", the topic of discussion was "How long can I wait and what kind of discrimination on a geographical basis!?". Judging by the official report in my mail, the wait is over and now MegaFon's mobile "Personal Account" works in all regions. Get the latest version for Android here, the last update was on October 22.

About informing

In early October, I wrote about a "cunning" SMS from MegaFon, in which the construction of phrases provoked the user to turn off the legally required SMS informing about price changes in tariffs and services.

Looks like, many letters got caught in this case:

“I always carefully read your notes about the “cunning gestures” of our valiant OPSOS, thanks for your work!

I would like to ask you about the problem that you raised again in the last issue: the accidental disabling of information about changes in the cost of Megafon services. Is it possible to somehow check the status of this service, and if it was accidentally disabled, is it possible to re-enable it?

During some digging myself, I discovered that this option can be explicitly enabled/disabled through a new LC. In the old SG it is simply nowhere to be found. select All options from the "Additional services" section.

Let's say thank you to Roman, and use it to your health. Do not be too lazy to check and disable this "Prohibition of informing" if it suddenly turned out to be connected. There is a suspicion that the clause on mandatory SMS notification will disappear in the next amendments to the Law.

About the iPhone and internet blocking

It turns out to be a very popular cause of user annoyance. The fact is that after the financial blocking of the SIM card and the subsequent replenishment of the balance, the mobile Internet does not appear on the iPhone by itself. Calls / SMS work, all the icons are in place, but the data is not transmitted. Fixed by mandatory turning off and on the device, temporary switching to the "Airplane" mode does not help.

The situation is typical for users of Smart tariffs, in which the subscription fee is charged in full, regardless of the state of the balance. This is also the question of why contact center employees are advised to restart the phone in the first place in case of any problems.

About actions by proxy

At the end of September, I wrote a "debriefing" on the sensational case of the repeated replacement of a SIM card by a fraudster under a "fake" power of attorney, followed by the theft of money from bank accounts, you can read here. In fact, the cases are not uncommon, for this they come up with all sorts of "fuses". Including a special service "Prohibition of actions with a SIM-card by proxy". The situation with Beeline is described in detail in the material (only in the office or by calling the contact center with identification), but how are the others doing with this “Ban”?

With MTS, it turned out that it is possible to establish a ban on actions by proxy only upon application at the office, personally to the owner of the number with a passport.

It has become clear with Tele2 thanks to the letter, the ban is now set by the USSD command.

“Sergey, good day. We Tele2 solved the problem like this. And without any visits to Naalya Spacious Condominiums On Sell torment-offices. Checked it works. As life shows, for the laziest this option is optimal. In addition, it would be interesting to know in general the percentage of those who take care of the safety of their SIM card, I'm afraid it tends to zero. Even in the light of recent high-profile events in Beeline. The main thing is that such a ban should not be "for show", but actually work.

Just check the USSD command for your region, it may be different. The screenshot above is from Tele2-Karelia. By the way, the date of the news (October 15) hints that the issue was dealt with after the current sensational case.

You can read about a similar service in MegaFon here (Moscow region), also implemented via a USSD command. And also check the command for your region, it may not match.

The USSD command is really good for its convenience, you can't argue. But situations are different. I have already given an example in the correspondence: “Let's say I left my SIM card to my son along with a power of attorney, I went far and for a long time. A thief comes to the salon with a fake power of attorney, changes the SIM card and sends a USSD ban from it for any operations by proxy. What are my next steps? Howl at the moon?". So, the "conservative-uncompromising" version of MTS has its advantages.

As a summary, I can only advise you to put such a "Ban" on your SIM card. If it is in a smartphone, and even more so if some banking services are attached to it. I also hope that everyone understands: managing your finances with a SIM card issued to a “someone else's uncle” is the height of recklessness.

About UMS and other people's SMS

The topic about the ill-fated UMS service in MegaFon has surfaced again. The idea was great, full access to SMS and messages on social networks, sending and forwarding SMS and all that, our review is here. Everything is fine, but they did not take care of security, simple passwords could be guessed by brute force. Two months after the launch of the service, the scammers studied the situation and wrote software, then quickly hacked everyone they could and signed them up for content. You can read our review of this extravaganza here. Later, the money was returned to everyone, the security hole was patched up. But, as it turned out later, the passwords of the victims were not reset. A month later, the entire obtained base of numbers and passwords (which remained the same) was scanned by the scammers for the presence of bank SMS, sorted out the necessary ones, and successfully robbed bank accounts through the same UMS. Our review is here, and even then I wrote that it would be better to immediately close this “advanced” service to hell. Then everything quieted down, or I just didn’t see any cases. And now, as the legendary Mr. Chernomyrdin said, “We have never had anything like this, and then suddenly again!”. Email:

“I want to add my case to your collection of operator errors. For a long time I used a modem with a megaphone SIM card, and for convenience, through the UMS website, I set up SMS forwarding to my phone. Then this modem completely abandoned. Apparently, today this number was given to another person, but the forwarding remained. Now I started receiving other people's SMS. Like this.

After I contacted Megafon with this information, I received a ridiculous response from the operator, from which it becomes clear that they did not even bother to understand the essence of the issue, but on formal grounds ("turn off the service") they sent a formal reply: " Dear Aleksey, services are activated/deactivated according to the owner of the number, his full name and passport data, or a code word, if it is set. We recommend that you contact the office with your passport on this issue.

I checked with Alexei, a year has passed since he abandoned the SIM card. I don’t know how to cure this and stop reading other people’s SMS, but the subscriber service does not understand the essence of the issue. Theoretically, you can try to contact the new owner of the number, ask him to register in this UMS, then delve into the settings and try to redirect SMS copies to another number. Oh well, it still falls off. If not, then get to the switch in MegaFon at night and pierce it with an aspen stake.

And how many more such cases are there in Russia that we don't know about? Personally, I am not surprised at anything after the bank card of the former owner of the number suddenly “came to life” before my astonished eyes. And she began to send SMS with offers to connect automatic replenishment of the balance of the new owner.

Yota, discount bonuses

Yes, a fair reproach, I forgot to mention it in the last selection. But I wrote about “Yota delivers”, and there has been little “consumer” news since then. Here is about 50% discount for the first month, quote:

“From October 15, new customers of the Yota mobile operator, when linking a bank card, will be able to receive a 50% discount on unlimited Internet, 300, 600, 900 or 1200 minutes upon activation of the first service package. You can link a bank card in the balance replenishment section of the mobile application. The user will only need to enter the card number, expiration date and CVV code. After linking a bank card, Yota customers will also be able to use the auto payment service. You can enable or disable it in the application on the page for editing map data.

Link a card - no matter what, it's not auto payment. But you can even bind only if you are sure that the number will remain with you, see above. And here we are talking about new customers. But if you suddenly don’t like it, then you can take it away by MNP and then look after the number. And please note that the discount is valid when you connect a package priced at 690 rubles. and above, a package for 440 rubles. per month is not in the news list.

But a significant discount on Internet tariffs for modems and routers, in my opinion, is more interesting. Such tariffs are usually used on an ongoing basis, and the discount

50% when paid a year in advance looks tempting. Valid from October 20, 2015:

“In the territory of Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as in the Kaluga region, new tariff options are introduced, namely: A year at speeds up to 10 Mbps for 6900 rubles - to the tariff “30 days at speeds up to 10 Mbps for 1250 rubles”, a year at speeds up to 5 Mbps for 5400 rubles” - to the tariff “30 days at speeds up to 5 Mbps for 900 rubles”. The conditions of these Tariff options are similar to the conditions of the Tariff option “A year at maximum speed for 9000 rubles”.

The selected option is activated in the Personal Account, and the entire amount is debited immediately upon connection; when moving to another region, the terms of service do not change. As far as I understand, the famous “engine”, which allows you to flexibly adjust the speed / fee, will not work either. In case of termination of the service contract, the monthly fee for the past months is recalculated at the base rates. Correct me if I misunderstood something.

"I always carefully read your notes about the "cunning gestures" of our valiant OPSOS, thanks for your work!

And without any walking around Naalya Spacious Condominiums On Sell torment-offices.
