Roskomnadzor unblocked 8 million IP addresses

Great news brings us the past week, Roskomnadzor unblocked 8 million IP addresses previously blocked in an attempt to stop the work of the Telegram messenger on the territory of the Russian Federation. After unlocking, many sites and services started working, Engadget and PhoneArena finally began to open, and access to the PlayStation Network was fully opened.

Wi-Fi in every Russian village

According to Vedomosti, this Thursday, President Putin instructed the government to prepare amendments to the law "On Communications" requiring the installation of at least one wireless access point in villages with a population of at least 100 people and report it by September 1.< /p>

At this stage, no one has calculated the budget for the project, and it may turn out to be significant, since we are talking about tens of thousands of settlements, according to a representative of one of the operators. It is clear that this initiative will have to seek additional funding, but the high level of Internet penetration in Russia is still very good.

Recall that Rostelecom provides Wi-Fi to settlements with a population of at least 250. The operator eliminates the digital divide for 168 billion rubles under a contract with the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz), concluded in 2014 for 10 years. The operator builds access points in settlements where payphones are installed. Since August 1, 2017, social Wi-Fi has become free, before access cost 45 rubles a month.

World Championship 2018

The 2018 FIFA World Cup has started in Russia, with which I congratulate you all. Many services have prepared for the upcoming event to make it as convenient as possible for users to receive the necessary information. For example, Yandex.Navigator warns of blocked streets in the cities where matches will be held, and you can familiarize yourself with the preliminary information about the time and place of traffic blocking in a separate section of the application menu.

Apple has trained its voice assistant, Siri, to answer questions related to the World Cup, so fans will always have someone to talk to about football.

Viber messenger has introduced new opportunities for football fans to communicate: users will be able to compete in predicting the results of football matches directly in the messenger. In addition, in support of the host country of the World Cup, a special “football” sticker pack appeared in the application with the participation of Violet, one of the main characters of Viber.

Prepared for the 2018 World Cup and Twitter, this is what the service offers users: live streaming of the game in trends, the score of each match in the interface, branded hashtag emoji and a stream of the most popular tweets from around the world, 16 live broadcast languages from FIFA in your accounts.

Kaspersky Lab has suspended cooperation with Europol

On Thursday, Kaspersky Lab announced that it had suspended cooperation with European law enforcement agencies, including Europol. The statement followed the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution on strengthening protection against cyber threats from Russia, China and North Korea.

Although the resolution has no legislative force and represents the opinion of individual deputies, it shows a clear disrespect for Kaspersky Lab, which has always been a firm friend of Europe in the fight against cybercrime. Because of this, our company has made the difficult decision to temporarily stop our numerous joint projects, including with Europol, in the field of combating cybercrime, until we receive clear official clarifications from the European Parliament.

Saturday coffee #6

Something has been going wrong at Kaspersky Lab lately: the United States bans their products for use in their departments, and now the company itself is suspending work with Europol. Let's hope that everything will be resolved in the best way and Kaspersky Lab will once again be fully operational in foreign markets.

Self-driving car from KamAZ and NAMI

On the Day of Russia in Kazan, the first working prototype of a platform for self-driving cars from KamAZ and NAMI, which was called the Shuttle, was shown. It's nice that we, as well as in other countries, are working in this direction. I would like to believe that most of the developments are domestic, and not borrowed from Western colleagues.

Saturday Coffee #6

If we talk about self-driving cars in general, then, of course, they are the future, but it is still very far away. Just to be 100% safe on the road, these cars have to be very, very smart, or else they have to completely replace classic cars. After all, no one can exclude the human factor, and some drivers, and even pedestrians, can sometimes make such a somersault that no person or smart machine can predict.

About Yandex

Eldar Murtazin prepared two detailed articles about Yandex and their latest product, Yandex.Station, I recommend you read it:

Saturday Coffee #6

Literally a week after the announcement of Yandex.Station, the Runet made a lot of noise about the new product and abruptly calmed down. This is understandable, the company did not name the exact dates for the start of sales, there are no full-fledged pre-orders, respectively, even for tests in the media, the search engine is in no hurry to give its smart box, a couple of first commercial video reviews do not count. Well, at such a pace, Yandex will have to create a new information wave by the start of Yandex.Station sales, but we'll see if we can do it a second time.

Xiaomi suffered losses of more than a billion dollars

Chinese Xiaomi posted a net loss of 7 billion yuan (about $1.09 billion) in the first fiscal quarter of this year, just ahead of its listing, according to Reuters. At the same time, the company notes that if we exclude one-time items of expenditure, then Xiaomi would have received a net profit of 1.04 billion yuan for the first quarter, and 3.9 billion yuan for 2017.

I wonder what kind of one-time expense items that led to the fact that the company showed such a loss? It seems that Xiaomi either acquired some company, but such information immediately pops up and cannot be hidden or, more likely, they invested in some new developments.

As a reminder, Xiaomi is rumored to be going for an IPO (initial public offering) of around $10 billion, which could be the largest global listing in the last four years.

Vivo NEX – this is how Lenovo Z5 should have been

The Chinese company Vivo (a subsidiary of BBK Electronics) has officially unveiled its new line of Vivo NEX smartphones, a distinctive feature of which is the absence of a notch and, at the same time, minimal bezels around the 6.59-inch display, which was achieved by abandoning placement on the front side of the camera, making it retractable.

The presented line consists of two models - Vivo NEX and Vivo NEX Ultimate, while the Ultimate model is equipped with a fingerprint scanner built into the screen (in the "regular" version it is located on the back panel), a more powerful processor - Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 ( in Vivo NEX - Snapdragon 710), more RAM - 8 GB (against 6 GB), as well as the presence of a variant with 256 GB of internal memory, while the simple version of Vivo NEX will be presented on the market only in the version with 128 GB.

Saturday coffee #6

This is how everyone was waiting for the Lenovo Z5, based on teasers and statements from top managers of the company, but in the end, Vivo released the first such product. Of course, the Vivo NEX Ultimate with a fingerprint scanner built into the screen and top-end hardware is of the greatest interest, but you are unlikely to buy it for yourself, since even in China the price for the model will start at $ 700. And it is also worth noting that the device abandoned the classic conversational speaker and uses its own Screen SoundCasting technology, which transmits sound due to screen vibrations. Something similar has already been in Sharp and Xiaomi smartphones, and this is not the most convenient and successful solution, which still completely loses to the classic dynamics.

Killing Motorola

BBC America has launched an excellent crime drama Killing Eve ("Killing Eve"), I recommend watching it, that's why this subtitle came to mind.

Lenovo, which acquired Motorola from Google in 2014, could revive and make the once-legendary brand successful, as the Chinese have had a similar experience with the laptop division. As a result, Lenovo not only finished off its hyped brand of smartphones Lenovo Vibe, in which a lot of money and efforts of employees were clearly invested, it also mocked (either Lenovo Moto, then Moto by Lenovo, then just Moto) and now it is finishing off the Motorola brand. A sad and strange story, which is clearly due to the wrong and inconsistent steps of the company's top managers. Eldar Murtazin wrote in detail about what is happening with Motorola Cuban Link Chain and Iced Wrist Watch and Lenovo, in "Spikers #489", I recommend to read:

Fortnite World Championship $100M

Epic Games has announced the Fortnite World Championship with a prize pool of $100 million, which is a lot for esports. Unlike competitors, the main focus of the Epic Games championship will be on singles and doubles competitions.

We will support community-organized tournaments, online tournaments, and major competitions around the world. Everyone can participate and win. You will be able to qualify for the Fortnite World Cup by participating in official qualifiers around the world. We will split $100M among many tournaments of different levels.

The largest exhibition of electronic entertainment E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) has ended in Los Angeles. This year there were quite a lot of new interesting announcements. So, the CD Projekt team, the creators of The Witcher 3, presented a new game Cyberpunk 2077, a mixture of action and RPG from the first person in the open world, which, according to the gaming publications that have already played it, is worked out very well.

Hideo Kojima presented another Death Stranding video, already with gameplay elements, but, again, from which nothing is particularly clear about the essence of the game. In general, what can I say - Genius!

Of course, it is worth mentioning the continuation of The Last of Us. Part II, the video of the game made a lot of noise, although it is not very clear why.

More details about E3 announcements were written by Vladimir Nimin in a separate article:

A week with Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact

I was skeptical about the new design of Sony smartphones presented at MWC 2018. The company has radically changed its already familiar angular and recognizable design and went into some kind of “Asianism”, but after getting to know the products better, I changed my mind. The manufacturer managed to make a completely new, but still recognizable design, and even the elements that clearly came from the Asian market do not spoil the picture, but bring in the sonystyle we loved so much.

Saturday coffee #6

The puffy Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact appealed to me even more than its older brother when we first met at the Sony booth. It looks interesting, but it’s unusual in the hand: the shape with rounded edges, a rather large thickness, with small other dimensions, the device strives to jump out of hands at first (I confess, I flew to the floor a couple of times, but, by the way, it passed the test with dignity ). I got the device in black, this is the most boring color for this model. "White Silver" and "Smoky Green" look much more interesting.

There are no complaints about the performance of the device, yet the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 4 GB of RAM are more than enough for both everyday tasks and games. There are no questions about the 5-inch screen either, a high-quality IPS-matrix, with a FullHD + resolution that is comfortable for such a diagonal, and besides, with HDR support. What I didn't like was the opening hours. Despite the positive feedback from colleagues, the XZ2 Compact worked for me in the morning-evening maximum, as well as most other devices. The advantage here is that the device supports Quick Charge 3.0, at any time you can quickly recharge a dead battery for further work.

Saturday coffee #6

Despite the fact that Sony is one of the main suppliers of smartphone camera modules and their products are considered the best on the market, Sony smartphones do not shoot very impressively. For example, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact seems to take good pictures, but not always, and the result is difficult to predict, so you took a great shot in difficult lighting, and at the same time you get a rather mediocre picture during the day. The pleasant moments include the presence of a hardware key for shooting, yet this is the control element with which it is much more convenient to take pictures.

In general, I liked the chubby Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, there is something attractive in it. Powerful hardware and support for all the necessary functions in a compact package, and even with protection according to the IP65 / 68 standard, this is now a rarity on the market. The only thing I don’t like is the price, 49,990 rubles is a lot for current Sony products, the company has lost its position, and it’s no longer possible to justify the cost with the words “But this is Sony!”.

It seems that Xiaomi either acquired some company, but such information immediately pops up and it cannot be hidden or, more likely, they have invested in some new developments.

As a reminder, Xiaomi is rumored to be going for an IPO (initial public offering) of around $10 billion, which could be the largest global listing in the last four years.

Vivo NEX - this was supposed to be Lenovo Z5

The Chinese company Vivo (a subsidiary of BBK Electronics) has officially unveiled its new line of Vivo NEX smartphones, the hallmark of which is the absence of a “notch” and at the same time minimal bezels around the 6.59-inch display, which was achieved by abandoning placement on the front side of the camera, making it retractable.

How quickly time flies, it seems like not so long ago the first animated film "The Incredibles" was released, but it turns out that 14 years have already passed since that moment! This week, the sequel to the cartoon "The Incredibles 2" was released, judging by the IMDB rating of 8.9 out of 10, you can safely take tickets and go to the movies.

TV presenter and singer Olga Buzova opened her first restaurant BUZfood, which is located in Moscow on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. According to press reports, more than 5 thousand people came to the opening of the restaurant, I hope, not only for the free food, which even provoked a small stampede. Here is what they write about the concept of the new restaurant on the official website:

BUZfood - Olga Buzova's chain of restaurants. The concept is based on premium salads at affordable prices. The best combination of price and quality. The project team, led by Olga Buzova herself, has developed 2 lines of salads for lovers of light snacks and hearty brunches.

Herman Klymenko removed from the post of presidential adviser

In accordance with a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Klimenko has been relieved of his post as adviser on the development of the Internet. Klymenko was appointed to the post of adviser in January 2016 and served for 2.5 years. The work and statements of German Sergeyevich while he held this position were treated differently, but today we just wish him good luck in a new place.

By the way, Google Assistant can also give you information about World Cup events.
