Saturday coffee #177

The week was not the most saturated with news, but still there was something interesting. So, Mark Zuckerberg announced the renaming of Facebook to Meta.

We wrote about Facebook itself last week here:

Do you follow Facebook? You are the past.

About how Facebook turned into a social network for old men and women.

Google has fully paid off all the fines imposed on it by Roskomnadzor due to violations in search results.

Land Rover has unveiled the fifth generation of the Range Rover SUV at the Royal Opera House in London.

The new Apple AirPods and MacBook Pro went on sale this week. The latter were already in short supply, and if you order a laptop on the manufacturer's website, then the next delivery date is expected only in December.

And also in Russia, sales of new products from Xiaomi have started, these are the new Pad 5 tablet, the Mi Smart Band 6 NFC contactless payment fitness bracelet and the Mi Smart Speaker with Marusya inside. The column has already been obtained, it is quite nice and with a good sound, but Marusya's intelligence, in comparison with the competing Alice, is a little frustrating.

Sony smartphone for professionals

Japanese company Sony announced the release of a new smartphone Xperia PRO-I, designed specifically for content creators. Thanks to a 1.0-size image sensor, 24mm ZEISS Tessar optics, a new image processor, advanced autofocus features, video recording support in https://cars45.com/listing/bmw/3_series/2008 in 4K 120p and a host of other features, the new product delivers professional image quality in an ultra-thin form factor with a smartphone body thickness of just 8.9mm. You can find more details about the product in our extended material following the presentation:

Sony Xperia PRO‑I Presentation – THE CAMERA

The coolest camera phone of 2022…

The company presented a rather stylish smartphone in its own design, unique for the market, and with top-end stuffing. As always, the manufacturer talks a lot about the superiority of the cameras in their device, but also almost directly states that they could not finalize the post-processing algorithms, so it will not be possible to achieve good results during shooting in automatic mode. At Sony, as happens with the latest products of the company, they position their model for professionals, those who are used to shooting with manual settings, thereby immediately cutting off a large layer of ordinary consumers.

Of course, it's sad to see how Sony has been burying its mobile division in recent years, first releasing products for fans of the brand, then switching to connoisseurs and lovers of photography and videography, and now aiming at professionals. Soon, the company will probably produce smartphones only for its employees, in order to be sure that a certain number of devices will be sold, and even get good reviews.

When the newly announced Sony Xperia PRO-I goes on sale, it is not clear how much it will cost either. Now we can only say for sure that the smartphone turned out to be clearly not for everyone, and its sales will be minimal.

This week we have published a material on the news of the month:

New items of the month: 7 main smartphones of October

October is the month of the Google Pixel 6, but Sony, Xiaomi, Samsung, realme and even Huawei have been delighted with new smartphones.

DJI Small Action Camera

DJI has released the DJI Action2 action camera. This camera replaces the DJI Osmo Action camera released in 2019. She received a 12 MP image sensor that supports 4K video recording with an angle of view of 155 degrees. The 39 mm x 22 mm module is equipped with a 1.76-inch OLED screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The model is a modular design that allows you to attach a second touch screen with a set of microphones, you can also attach an additional battery, or a tripod mount, or a GoPro mount. The camera can be worn on a strap. The novelty weighs 53 grams, it has 32 GB of internal storage and is expandable through the use of microSD memory cards. It implements electronic stabilization and leveling of the horizon. The manufacturer estimated the camera at $399.

An interesting and very compact camera, the only drawback of which is that the owner will have to buy various accessories for it. If you want an additional viewfinder, please, there is a special module. There is not enough built-in battery - here is an additional battery. And also holders, mounts and other things that DJI Action2 owns and is not compatible with similar products. At the same time, not only are DJI accessories expensive in Russia, but it’s also usually problematic to get them in our market, I know this from the experience of operating the DJI Osmo Pocket. Yes, our novelty has already appeared on sale, but so far only in a set with a second display, the price of such a set is 44,999 rubles.

Last week we released a small review of new glasses from Facebook with the ability to record photos and videos:

Spillikins №665. Sketches from Los Angeles - technology and life of the country

Road sketches from Los Angeles; start of Pixel sales and insurance; Ray Ban glasses with built-in camera; roaming in America; graffiti and advertising; renaming Facebook.

Almost Russian smartphone

M.Video-Eldorado Group announced a joint launch of sales of the Russian smartphone for secure communication AYYA T1 with SmartEcoSystem, which is part of the Rostec structure. The AYYA T1 smartphone is equipped with a 6.55-inch screen with a protective glass, dual main (12 and 5 MP) and 13 MP front cameras, has a MediaTek Helio P70 processor, a 4000 mAh battery, as well as 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. At the same time, the device has functions to ensure a high level of confidentiality and exclude unauthorized collection of information by cameras and microphones - just press the button on the left side of the device. A package of Russian software is preinstalled on the device. The novelty is running the Android 11 operating system. It is promised that a domestic OS will be available for the smartphone later. You can buy a gadget at a price of 18,999 rubles.

Very, very strange device. According to the manufacturer, it allows you to prevent the leakage of user data, and a separate button can block access to the microphone and camera of the device. Now only domestic software is preinstalled on the smartphone, which is mandatory by law, but in the future it is planned to install a Russian operating system and even its own processor in the device. In the second case, we mean a new version of the device, although I highly doubt it, and in the first case, some of our mobile OS should replace the current Android. In the meantime, we see the most common Chinese smartphone with a nameplate of a domestic manufacturer and without any changes, since there have long been models on the Chinese market that allow blocking access to the microphone and camera.

To take a break from this strange "domestic" smartphone, it's better to read our material about new interesting gadgets:

A new Huawei smartphone comes out in Russia

Huawei introduced its new Huawei nova 9 smartphone to the Russian market, which received such advanced solutions as a 50-megapixel RYYB sensor with a color filter matrix and Fusion Engine image enhancement technology. The smartphone also features a 6.57-inch curved-edge OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G processor, a 4300mAh battery, and support for Huawei SuperCharge 66W fast charging. The pre-order for the smartphone in Russia will start from November 8, 2021, and the price will be 39,999 rubles.

A rather interesting device from a Chinese manufacturer, which is similar in hardware to the Honor 50 product from the already independent company Honor. By the way, sales of the latter started last week in Europe, and, according to Western media, the device comes with Google services right out of the box. But Huawei, unfortunately, is still under sanctions from the US, so the nova 9 is deprived of GMS, and HMS is offered to replace them. If you are not strongly tied to Google services, then you can easily find almost all the software you need for life, especially domestic developers, in the Huawei brand store.

We already have a first look at the novelty Huawei, so in the material you can find all the details about it. From myself, I note that it seems that the Chinese are planning a new trend for frosted glass walls of smartphones, they are practical, do not collect fingerprints, and at the same time they look very decent. So, I think, following Huawei, other companies will start releasing similar solutions.

Chinese Premium

Sales of the Exeed TXL SUV have started on the Russian market. The car is offered to the Russian consumer in two trim levels - Luxury and Flagship. The Luxury version will cost the buyer 2,509,900 rubles if purchased in trade-in. The older version of Flagship will cost 2,709,900 rubles under the terms of the trade-in program. The manufacturer claims a 7-year warranty period for the car and guarantees 200,000 km of run. The car is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 186 hp, which allows you to accelerate to hundreds in 9.8 seconds. The engine was developed by Chery specialists in cooperation with the Austrian company AVL. The engine is aggregated with a 7-speed robotic gearbox, which is controlled by paddle shifters. The car was built on the M3X modular platform, developed by Chery and the German company Benteler. The cabin has two 12.3-inch screens, one of which is a digital instrument panel, and the second is responsible for the operation of the multimedia system. Various vehicle systems are controlled using a touch panel installed next to the armrest.

Exeed is a premium brand of the Chinese automaker Chery, similar to Japanese Lexus for Toyota and Infiniti for Nissan. The new Exeed TXL was turned up quite well, they put an analogue of the first generation MBUX in the cabin and even made a standard logo illumination on the hood, apparently with a reference to the illumination of the nostrils of BMW. And throughout the entire Russian presentation, the company's representatives constantly emphasized that the manufacturer buys most of the components for the car only from market leaders. I'm interested in looking at the premium Chery, especially trying on the driver's seat, because it's curious how well the company's engineers have worked on it, since the seats are one of the weakest points in new Chinese cars. Yes, Exeed TXL became the most expensive car in the segment, quite a bit, but still ahead of Korean competitors here.

Metroid Dread Week

The new Metroid Dread game, released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch console, is the sequel to Metroid Fusion, which was released almost 20 years ago for the Game Boy Advance. In general, the Metroid series of games is quite unique, as the first part of the game spawned a whole separate genre of metroid games. In them, your character explores the labyrinth of the game universe, fighting enemies along the way and pumping his skills that he needs to complete previously inaccessible stages.

The new Metroid Dread doesn't have great graphics, but it looks interesting and unusual in its own way, and some levels make you stop and look at the details. The game came out almost simultaneously with the release of the new Nintendo Switch OLED model and seems to have been sharpened specifically for this console update. If the game looks good on a regular Switch, then it is on the OLED screen of the new console that it immediately changes, making the game world more atmospheric.

The game is quite fast and will not let you get bored, even exploring labyrinths and returning to the same points does not look like a drag, but harmoniously fits into the process of passing. Returning to stages you've already completed is part of Metroid, as you'll encounter obstacles along the way that you won't be able to complete without gaining new experience for your character.

In general, Metroid Dread is a release not only for fans of the genre and the series, but also for everyone who misses beautiful and fast-paced 2D arcade games that can be played both in short sessions and stuck in the game world for several hours .

And now a little about the new Nintendo Switch OLED model, which went on sale in Russia last Friday. The first thing that catches your eye when you get to know the console is the new larger 7-inch screen, which is now also made using OLED technology. The impressions of playing on the new console are such that a really new generation of the console has come out, and not just its small update. By design differences, you immediately pay attention to other volume keys and the power button. Also, of course, it is worth noting the new, really comfortable stand, which has several opening positions. In the hands of the new Switch, it feels a little better than its predecessor, this is due to slightly different body materials and better fixed Joy-Con.They pumped OLED models and sound into the Switch, it became more voluminous, although now that it is possible to connect Bluetooth headphones to the set-top box, this is no longer so important. All in all, if you're a heavy Nintendo Switch player, you can feel free to upgrade your console to a newer model, as you'll get a really different experience when you switch. Those who rarely play, probably, should not particularly strive to update the device, but do it on occasion, for example, as a gift to their loved one for the New Year.

Since Nintendo Switch now works with wireless headphones, it would be useful to recommend recent reviews of such devices:

A pre-order for a smartphone in Russia will start from November 8, 2021, and the price will be 39,999 rubles.

The new Metroid Dread game, released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch console, is a continuation of Metroid Fusion, which was released almost 20 years ago for the Game Boy Advance.

The game was released almost simultaneously with the release of the new Nintendo Switch OLED model and, it seems, was sharpened specifically for this update of the console.

The week was not the most saturated with news, but still there was something interesting. So, Mark Zuckerberg announced the renaming of Facebook to Meta.

We wrote about Facebook itself last week here:

About how Facebook has become a social network for old men and women.
