The way out is to focus on IP, that is, not on voice, but on data transmission, which will include, among other things, voice traffic.

By 2014, there may be up to 10 billion devices on the mobile Internet, and these will be various devices, not just phones. Today, SIM cards in tablets, laptops, even toys are no longer a rarity.

In Russia, there is a small PC penetration, which gives us the potential for explosive growth along with the development of the mobile Internet. Unlike many European countries.

A new market is starting to grow. About 80 percent of Internet users in Russia do not have access speeds above 512 Kb/s. For many, this is even dial-up, the situation will change, and all this guarantees explosive growth.

Within a few years, we will move from billing per minute of voice traffic to billing per megabyte. And the data center in such backbone networks becomes one of the key elements of the infrastructure.

MegaFon plans to open such centers throughout the country. There is already a data center in Novosibirsk, it was built earlier than the one described in Samara. An investment program for 2011 is currently being adopted, and MegaFon will participate in the construction of other similar facilities. Representatives of the company did not mention either the number of centers or the amount of investment. In my opinion, the volume of investments can be at least 4.5 billion rubles, and these will be three data centers. One in St. Petersburg, and the other two - in the regions.
