Editorial digest N7. Covers and Dregs

The New Year holidays have passed, and the harsh working days have begun. During the reporting period, the authors of the site reviewed, re-listened and read a lot of interesting things, some of which we will share with you now.

I remember that in the first edition of the editorial digest I told you about the wonderful band The Baseballs. Let me remind you that this team is reworking modern hits in the manner of rock and roll of the 60s, and they are doing great. Today we will talk about a less prominent performer, but it is impossible not to appreciate him. I haven't had to listen to this yet. So…

Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine

  • Line-up: Richard Cheese - vocals; Bobby Ricotta - piano, keyboards Frank Feta - drums, percussion Billy Bleu - bass guitar
  • Official site: www.richardcheese.com

An amazing ensemble covering many genres and trends in music with its creativity - from melodies from movies, cartoons and pop to grunge, alternative and metal. I have not been able to determine the genre of his work. Rather, it is a kind of band that performs well-known songs in an easy, unobtrusive and playful manner. I don't even know where to start... For example, the song Crazy - in it Richard (I'll take the liberty of calling him by his first name) practically declares his love for Britney Spears. I did not find the song in open sources, so use Google - you can listen to it, or at least read the lyrics.

The next number I want to present blew my mind. To begin with, I suggest that all lovers of music "heavier" remember the song System Of A Down - Chop Suey:

Now let's evaluate the work of Richard Cheese:

Or, for example, Personal Jesus:

No less famous motif: Black Eyed Peas - Let`s get it started:

This band has covered Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Guns and Roses, Disturbed, Snoop Dog, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Prodigy, Blink 182, U2, Crazy Town, Coldplay, Michael Jackson and so on.

I want to end this text with a cover of a theme from the Star Wars movie. Happy listening!

I think many of you have something similar: the attitude towards a particular group seriously changes depending not only on your mood, but also on age. I had a similar relationship with the work of the Deftones group. After listening to one of the albums five years ago, I did not understand at all what this music was about. I concluded: “not mine” - and became interested in other groups. And now literally every day I listen to a fresh Deftones album called Diamond Eyes. Often the compositions are mixed with the tracks of the same album that I did not understand five years ago.

Death in June. Album Peaceful Snow (2010)

  • Genre: Folk
  • Country: United Kingdom
  • Year of band creation: 1977

Roughly the same story happened with the work of Death in June. For several years now, a good friend of mine has been advising me to get acquainted with the work of this group, enticing with the mystery, depth and unusualness of creativity.

Looks like it's time for Death in June too. Lately I've been listening to their latest CD, a double edition called Peaceful Snow.

The team has a very difficult fate, it is rather difficult to trace the stages of development and changes that occur with the composition. The creator and constant member Douglas Pierce throughout the existence of the group, the main message of Death in June called his outlook on life. The main thing is to convey your vision. And Douglas' views on life are more than diverse: it is an explosive mixture of mystery behind the runes (they make up the name of the group), occultism, esotericism and symbolism, plus the tragedy of the times of Nazi Germany.

The musical style of the Peaceful Snow album is rather folk. Although there is no consensus. The overall impression of the compositions is quite tragic, gloomy, but at the same time melodic works. At some points, common notes with the work of Joy Division can be traced. To build melodies, acoustic guitar, piano, various percussion are used, modern electronic samples also come across. The sadness, despair, tragedy and sorrow of the Death in June compositions - all this gave reason to call Douglas Pierce the founder of such a phenomenon in music as "apocalyptic folk".

Yes, there is probably something in this definition.

"Of all forms of art, music awakens my feelings most powerfully. When I hear familiar songs or some memorable melodies, all smells, tastes, emotions can rush again. It has an incomparable sadness, and for this I love her more than anyone" - Douglas Pierce.

The Misfits series "The Misfits"

  • Country: United Kingdom
  • Number of seasons: 2
  • Number of episodes: 13
  • Episode length: 45 minutes

Look at these brave guys, this is the hope of Great Britain, its support.

I'm joking, of course - but in every joke there is only a fraction of a joke, and the rest, as you know, is true. The plot of the series is as follows - a storm front passes over the city, and some people in this very city acquire supernatural abilities. Of course, not everyone realizes them right away. The bottom line is that people get what they want - and sometimes they have to regret the opportunities they have gained. I will say this: the creators of the series looked at the problems of superheroes from a very interesting point of view, which is worth at least the abilities themselves. This is not Orignal Adidas Track Suit (Tuta) series "Heroes ", but a much more "live" product.

Personally, at the time of writing, I'm watching the first season of the series and will soon move on to the second. I sincerely recommend watching at least a couple of episodes.

The Tourist movie "Tourist"

  • Country: USA, France
  • Year: 2010
  • Genre: action, drama
  • Starring: Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Paul Bettany, Steven Berkoff, Timothy Dalton, Rufus Sewell, Igor Zhizhikin, Christian De Sica, Alessio Boni, Daniele Pecci
  • IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1243957

You know, you can criticize the film "Tourist" for the plot, the motivation of the main characters, but ... See for yourself. The main character is played by Angelina Jolie. A letter arrives from a certain Alexander Pierce (with whom the heroine Jolie is clearly connected with something) - you need to take a train, find a person who looks like Pierce there, and convince him that this very person is Pierce. What for? Well, of course - this man, similar to Pierce, is played by Johnny Depp. By the way, Mr. Pierce stole from an English oligarch with an Eastern European entourage (yes, the thugs from Ukraine were so tolerantly called in the film) a couple of hundred million in foreign currency - which easily explains the interest in him of both the oligarch and law enforcement agencies (after all, you have to pay taxes on stolen money). In short, Jolie and Depp are running around, the oligarch and the thugs, together with the police, are chasing them, the plot is predictable. And you know, if the main roles were played not by Jolie and Depp, this film would hardly be worth watching. Are Jolie and Depp mentioned too many times? Well, in my opinion, this is the only "feature" of the film.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed the next issue of the digest, we are waiting for your comments - and, of course, tips on interesting things - it's always interesting to watch or listen to something new.
